Merit List & Weighted Score Calculator — Frequently Asked Questions

How weighted scoring works, how ties are ranked and what to check against your advertisement. Tap any question to expand the full answer.

How is the final weighted score computed?

Each component is first converted to a percentage (score ÷ full marks), then multiplied by its weight, and the weighted results are added together: Final = Σ (score ÷ full marks × weight). For example, 61/100 written at 60% weight contributes 36.6 points. The result table also shows every component's percentage so you can see exactly where a candidate gained or lost rank.

What if the weights don't add up to 100?

The calculator warns you and keeps computing — the final score simply comes out of whatever total the weights sum to (for example 90%). Most Nepali advertisements keep written + practical + interview weights at 100%, so a warning usually means a typo. If a scheme genuinely exceeds 100%, read the final column as points out of the stated total.

How are ties ranked?

Tied candidates share the same rank and the next rank is skipped (standard competition ranking: 1, 1, 3). Real commissions break ties with their own published rules — higher written marks, older age or the earlier roll number are common — so treat a shared rank as a signal to check the tie-break clause in the advertisement, not as the final word.

Is the example weight scheme official?

No. The pre-filled Written / Practical / Interview rows are only an editable demonstration of how the maths works. Every post, commission and year can define different components and weights — always delete the example and enter the scheme printed in your own vacancy notice or result sheet. The tool is a calculator, not a source of rules, and nothing you type is uploaded or saved.
