Typing Speed Test — Frequently Asked Questions
How WPM is counted, what a good score is for Nepal's computer skill tests and how the Nepali passage works. Tap any question to expand the full answer.
How is WPM calculated in this test?
Every keystroke is compared with the passage character by character. Your gross WPM is (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes — the international standard that treats five keystrokes as one word. Accuracy is correct characters ÷ characters typed, so fixing mistakes with backspace keeps your speed honest but lowers the score. CPM (characters per minute) is shown too because some Nepali typing assessments quote it directly.
What typing speed do computer-operator exams require?
Requirements are set by each advertisement, not by this tool — many Nepali computer-operator and assistant-level practical tests look for roughly 25–30 WPM in English or the equivalent in Nepali typing, with some notices stating a minimum characters-per-minute figure instead. Always practise to the figure printed in your own vacancy notice, and aim a few WPM above it for exam-day nerves.
How does the Nepali (Devanagari) passage work?
The Nepali passage uses Devanagari characters including matras (vowel signs), and the counter grades exactly what you type against the passage. Because Devanagari conjuncts and matras count as characters, compare your Nepali CPM with other Nepali CPM figures rather than with your English WPM. You need a Devanagari keyboard layout (such as Preeti, Unicode Romanized or InScript) enabled on your device to type it.
Is my typing stored anywhere?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded. The only thing saved is your personal best WPM per test duration, stored in your browser's local storage on your own device. Clearing your browser data removes it. Paste is disabled on purpose: the score only means something if it measures your own keystrokes.
