Job Finder built the IELTS Band Score Calculator as part of a complete, privacy-first toolkit for students and job seekers preparing applications at home and abroad. Enter your four skill bands and the calculator applies the official rounding rule (mean of the four, rounded to the nearest half band, quarter and three-quarter averages rounded up), shows the indicative CEFR level and instantly checks the exact requirement your university, visa route or employer prints on the offer letter. Everything is computed inside the browser and nothing is saved or uploaded, so the tool also works offline once the page has loaded. Below you will find the frequently asked questions, typical raw-score conversion tables and related guides for the rest of your application.

How is the IELTS overall band score calculated?
The overall band is the average of your four skill scores — Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking — rounded to the nearest half band, with quarter and three-quarter averages rounded up. Four skills of 7.0, 6.5, 6.0 and 6.5 average 6.5 exactly, so 6.5 is the overall band; 7.0, 7.0, 6.5 and 7.0 average 6.875, which rounds to 7.0.
What CEFR level is my IELTS band?
The indicative alignment most IELTS partners publish is: bands 8.5–9.0 = C2, 7.0–8.0 = C1, 5.5–6.5 = B2, 4.5–5.0 = B1 and 4.0 = A2. Treat it as guidance only — organisations set their own admission rules, and the calculator’s requirement check is where you compare against the exact band a university, visa or employer asks for.
How do raw scores out of 40 convert to bands for Listening and Reading?
The calculator includes the widely used reference tables for the 40-question Listening and Academic Reading sections — for example about 30 correct answers is typically band 7.0 in Listening and 30 in Academic Reading. IELTS officially states the exact conversion varies slightly between test versions to keep difficulty comparable, so always treat the table as typical rather than guaranteed.
Is the calculator free, offline and does it store my scores?
It is completely free, runs 100% inside your browser and works offline once the page has loaded. Nothing you type is uploaded or saved — close the tab and the scores are gone. The Copy button puts a ready-to-send summary (overall band, four skills and CEFR level) on your clipboard for application forms and emails.
